[OH! Vols] Architecture of Safety Discussion + Private Film Screening

Join us for a night of discussion with visual artist Ernest Wu, followed by a private film screening!

Singapore is a haven of safety in a fractured and uncertain world, where it is easy to hold violence at arms’ length. This sense of security permeates our lives and shapes our behaviour. But what threats are we actually facing? What are the invisible systems and structures that we take for granted? And what choices and sacrifices are we making?

OH! Community Builders have planned a thoughtful evening around two artworks that explore ideas of national security, invisibility, and belonging.

The evening begins with a discussion with Ernest Wu on his work-in-development, Architecture of Safety. Currently in residency with Exactly Foundation, Ernest Wu is a Singapore-based visual artist working across photography, moving image, and digital installation. His practice investigates the gap between event and representation, asking what can be known, seen, and felt through images as they move through networks, interfaces, and systems of circulation.

As part of the development of Architecture of Safety, conversations with different communities form part of the work itself. Through this gathering, participants are invited not only to encounter the project, but also to contribute their own reflections and responses, which will inform the artwork as it evolves toward its exhibition at Objectifs later this year.

Following dinner, we will conclude the evening with a private viewing of a rare Singapore film that mediates on the idea of love for a place called ‘home’, through the voices of individuals whose lives sit alongside and outside this ‘home’.
